Dear colleagues, dear friends,

It is my great honour to cordially invite you to the 9th Czech-Slovak Congress of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, the 83rd Congress of the Czech Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery of the Czech Medical Association JEP and the 68th Congress of the Slovak Society for Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery.

The joint Czech-Slovak congress is the most important professional event in our field. Two years ago, the Brno ENT Clinic commemorated the 100th anniversary of its establishment. Even with regard to this important anniversary, we are very happy to be able to welcome you in Brno and to commemorate this important anniversary with this prestigious professional event.

Due to the epidemiological situation, the congress was postponed for a year, so unusually after three years, there will be a joint summit of Czech and Slovak otorhinolaryngologists. The main topics of this year's meeting will be otology and the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck tumours. The organization of the professional part of the congress will adhere to the established programme concept. Its main part will be panel discussions led by leading Czech and Slovak experts. Panels of free papers and poster presentations will be open to all participants who want to present the results of their work. Traditionally, there will also be a rich offer of didactic instructional courses and an accompanying professional programme for non-medical health professionals. In addition to panel discussions by leading experts, other parts of the programme include instructional courses, round tables, free presentations and poster presentations. There will also be an accompanying professional programme for non-medical health professionals.

At the same time, I am sincerely pleased that the Brno Congress will be enhanced by the participation of the world-renowned plastic surgeon and pioneer of facial transplants, Prof. Bohdan Pomahač, who will give a lecture at the opening ceremony and at the same time he promised to participate in a panel discussion devoted to reconstructive surgery. I believe that his presence will be an extraordinary experience for the entire otorhinolaryngological community. In addition, his presentation of clinical and scientific work will be a great enrichment and his remarkable life story will be an extraordinary inspiration, especially for young doctors.

The congress will take place on 8–10 June 2022. The unambiguous choice of venue fell on Hotel International. This luxurious four-star hotel will offer participants not only great conference facilities but also its unique location in the immediate vicinity of the historic city centre, Špilberk Castle and the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul.

In addition, we also have a rich accompanying programme within the congress. We recommend you visit the original exhibition of modern art “Ears, noses and necks in contemporary Czech painting”, the concept of which was created especially on the occasion of our congress in Brno. The exhibition will be inaugurated on the opening day of the congress at the nearby Graciano Gallery.

The Czech-Slovak Congress is returning to South Moravia after 18 long years. I firmly believe that the varied scientific programme and the traditionally high professional level of the congress will be a rich inspiration and a great benefit, especially for young doctors. At the same time, on behalf of the organizing workplace, I hope that the congress will be accompanied by a positive atmosphere, that it will be a welcome opportunity for a friendly meeting for all participants, and that it will leave a pleasant memory in each of you.
